Review of “SHE: Ekla Cholo Re” by Dr. Shayan Haq & Santosh Avvannavar

It is one of the best book & most creative book I have read so far.  Not only the title is apt with the story plot but also explains the philosophy of life. As we say “Aur Karwaan Banta Chala Ggya” i.e. at times we would find ourselves helpless and alone & the only option besides quitting is to have the courage to travel alone-“Ekla Cholo Re”. It is light-read (58 pages).

SHE: Ekla Cholo Re

The story plot is well chosen and aims to highlight the psychological trauma faced by people who don’t fit into the category of male & female. They have a constant inner battle as they find themselves unable to fit into the pre-conceived notion of the society.
The story is about Kusum & is set in 1990s. She was waiting on a highway for a bus and was offered a lift by Raj. Raj strikes a conversation with Kusum along the journey. Kusum narrates the story of her life to Raj, who was patient and cared to lend ears to what “unconventional” she told. She expressed how her childhood & teen days were different & often dark, fearful & gloomy. Her encounter with Debu was unusual. It’s an exciting read where she re-constructs her life that was studded with lots of hurdles and setbacks in her life.

The story is fast-moving yet the conversations are touching & moving. The authors have successfully disrupted the notion that the books that are based on sensitive issues leaves you tearful. Rather the story is an inspiring read.
The authors have rightly summed up what’s the book is about through “A story meant to motivate all & sundry irrespective of their circumstances!”

The story revolves around the powerful message “Ekla Cholo Re” that the protagonist Kusum applies in her life to show to the world that hope still exists.

Best moment@ SHE: Ekla Cholo Re
“Make people & situation powerless by not reacting to reactions from the society”

I congratulate the authors & appreciate their efforts for bringing a very sensitive issue (LGBT) in such a lovely and appealing manner. As a token of appreciation “I’m putting the review of SHE: Ekla Cholo Re” at the homepage of my blog”.

I rate is as 5/5.

With Great Love,
