Q. “The pull factor for migration is fascinating but it comes with a price. What are the few things that must be ascertained before one migrates?”

Sharmishtha Shenoy: Hi, Amit. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

You indeed have put up a very good question. The pull factor for migration is definitely very fascinating and it comes with a price like all the other good things. As my book talks more about the people with shattered dreams, I can give you a good insight to it.

In India, a family plays a big support system for a person both in the ups and down of the life. Therefore, before one migrates, it is better to look for family members who are already residing in that city. Try to connect with them. However, there can also be a situation when you have no one from the family in the city. In that case, it is better to befriend people from your city or community who are already living there, your college friends, school friends or friends of friends. That will also give you a sense of belongingness and give you a good social life too beside professional life. It so happens that due to stress or depression a person can take to bad ways. Therefore, it is always advisable to choose your company wisely. One must always remember that independence comes with responsibility. Therefore if your fail in your responsibilities it may shatter your dreams.
