The people who suffer from chronic and severe stress and ultimately may turn suicidal are more creative.
Temporal lobe of brain has two components:
1- Hippocampus (responsible for long-term memory)
2- Amygdala (emotional centre)
When the mind is over – stressed or under depression:
# Hippocampus is damaged i.e. brain cells in this area lose the ability to process information properly.
So, one is unable to take logical and reasonable decisions under chronic stress.
Also, the process of forming memories of daily events and facts is hampered.
# Amygdala : neurons grow bigger and stronger when under higher levels of anxiety, aggression or fear.
So, people who have endured and came out from depression and suicidal behaviours have more developed Amygdala which provides them an edge in being more creative and artistic.
A voyage to History testifies that most successful and influential writers and artists have suffered from severe depression.
So, the message is: Even the worst dark phases of life may prove to be the turning point of your life. They may be opportunities in disguise which we fail to see at times.
